Securus Software now available on SBA

16/04/2013

SEGfL is pleased to announce that Securus Software is now available to our schools through the SEGfL Buying Association (SBA) from our software partners, Softcat.

Securus is an e-safety monitoring system which alerts schools to any unsafe behaviour taking place on their network. This cannot be achieved by filtering and blocking software alone.

As well as providing comprehensive e-safety protection, Securus encourages pupils to think for themselves and take greater responsibility for their actions. This leads to dramatic improvements in student safety and behaviour and teaches them how to be safe online.

Securus is simple and highly effective

Securus monitors the computers in your school and detects cyberbullying, sexual grooming, inappropriate language, explicit images and unauthorised content viewed by your pupils. A screen capture is taken of every incident. This shows what was displayed at the time, who was involved and when the incident took place. This allows staff to respond to potentially serious or disruptive situations, using the screen captures as evidence to decide on the most appropriate response.

Protect staff and pupils

Some of the issues and concerns that Securus detects include:

  • Depression, self-harm and suicide
  • Predator grooming and child abuse
  • Bullying, racial and religious harassment
  • Inappropriate language and offensive behaviour

This provides staff with more control over e-safety situations and helps meet Ofsted safeguarding criteria.

Ofsted expectations

Securus is a key tool in providing information and protection as defined in documents being used as part of the inspection process. These include;

  • September 2009 - Safeguarding becomes a 'Limiting Factor'
  • February 2010 - 'The safe use of new technologies' report
  • January 2012 - Judgements limited from 27 to 4.
