ICT tools with the “wow” factor

ICT can have a transformational impact on Learning and Teaching, raising achievement and providing opportunities to be creative and innovative. I have put together a number of resources and links that I think can enhance, extend and empower those who want to participate. It doesn't need any financial commitment, rather a willingness to try, collaborate, innovate and share. Why not choose a project, application or technology to explore, understand it and decide what you want to get out of the experience. Record the impact it has on Learning or Teaching, become a classroom researcher and share your findings, especially your successes.

The following tools from the web, have proved very useful and used on a regular basis. There are many more, but these are the ones that I feel have the "wow" factor and are free.

1. Cooliris (http://www.cooliris.com/) & Tilt viewer (http://www.airtightinteractive.com/projects/tiltviewer/) presentation tools that are visual and very interactive.

2. Open Office (http://openoffice.org-suite.com/) & Zoho Suite (http://www.zoho.com/) free "office" tools and provide a lot of functionality that Microsoft Office can.

3. Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/) & Snap it (http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Misc__Utilities/Snap_It.html) screen capture tools that I use everyday.

4. Voicethread (http://voicethread.com/) a collaborative slideshow that can be used in so many different ways.

5. remember the milk (http://www.rememberthemilk.com/) remember things and send yourself reminders.

6. Classtools (http://classtools.net/) & PowerPoint Games  (http://people.uncw.edu/ertzbergerj/ppt_games.html) Flash based classroom tools and PowerPoint games with a purpose.

7. Lingro (http://lingro.com/) &  Visuwords (http://www.visuwords.com/) a multingual dictionary and an online graphical dictionary. With Lingro you can even create Flashcards.

8. Google Docs (http://docs.google.com/) & Foldershare (https://www.foldershare.com/) share documents in real time.

9. Truetube (http://www.truetube.co.uk/) &  BBC Learning Clips (http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/) useful video content that is worth talking about.

10. Wordle (http://www.wordle.net/) a word cloud and a very quick way to create a poster.
