Folk Tales from Britain and Nepal
Healthy LivingTo support the project both schools received six ASUS minibooks provided as an evaluation exercise by the SEGFL.

An Intercultural awareness project involving Key Stage 2 pupils from Dymchurch Primary School and Guston Primary School. The two schools are situated in the south of Kent approximately twenty-six kilometres apart. Dymchurch primary situated 7 km east of Hythe is a one form entry primary school. The vast majority of the pupils are white and British. The village of Guston is situated 2.5 km north of the port of Dover. The primary school is situated next to the army barracks and a large residential estate. Most pupils who attend the one form entry school are the sons and daughters of Nepalese service men and women.

Most speak very little or no English when they arrive in the United Kingdom.
The project was an opportunity for pupils from Dymchurch and Guston to use ICT to share information about themselves and their different cultures. Funded by the SEGFL and supported by the Kent ?Hands on Support? programme pupils from both schools used ICT to:

? Regularly web conference
? Create multimedia presentations
? Publish video and audio files
? Send messages
? Comment on each others work

The project that involved Year 3 pupils from Dymchurch primary and Year 5 pupils from Guston primary was launched in January 2008. Linked in the spring term to the literacy unit ?Traditional Tales? and in the summer to promoting ?Healthy Eating? pupils from both schools used a range of digital resources to publish and share their learning with others.
FlashMeeting enabled the pupils to regularly communicate and discuss their work. Working together in pairs and small groups they frequently used the application to leave verbal messages. An activity made possible because of the applications playback facility that enabled pupils to replay conversations to clarify meaning.

To promote collaboration the teachers created a Google Docs account. This account was used during the summer term by pupils from both schools to design healthy drinks and draft written reports. One particular feature that contributed to learning was the opportunity for pupils to post comments in the ?dialogue box? before, during and after an activity.

Micro-sites - On-Line publishing made easy!

To share their learning teachers published finished work on the Internet using a micro-site provided by the SEGFL. Created originally for the staff at Dymchurch the site was used throughout the project by both schools to publish written reports, videos and multimedia presentations for pupils to read and view.
