Comodo announces new ‘callback’ validation process for Organisation Validated certificates

Janet today announced a change to the way in which Organisation Validated (OV) certificates will be issued from 1 February 2013.

Comodo, the certificate authority, has recently advised Janet and other certificate issuers, that the Certificate Authority/Browser (CA/B) Forum now requires Comodo to undertake an additional validation step when issuing an OV certificate. This change will now apply to all new OV certificates, even if your organisation has previously obtained these types of certificates from the JCS.

We anticipate that the new process will increase the time frame between requesting and receiving your OV certificates. This is likely to take up to five working days. The new process, the 'callback' will involve Comodo making a telephone call to the requester, to validate the authenticity of the certificate application.
